Rainbow Gallery Young Artists Juried Exhibition - December 2021.
Overall comments:
First of all, thank you to all of you who have submitted works for this exhibition! It is wonderful to see so much creativity,
and to be able to show it to the public in North Oakville. It definitely feels like a colourful celebration! Congratulations to all of you!It warms
our hearts to see so much young talent in the community. Please view all 35 artworks on the Rainbow Gallery website. Due to space constrictions
we had to limit the number of artworks shown live in the Gallery to 22. The quality of the submissions, the diversity of media and treatments
made our job as jurors pretty hard, and that is a good thing!
As jurors,we looked at the artworks with the following criteria in mind :
- Originality
- Artistry in composition and design
-
Skill and technique handling
- How it addressed the call, the ideas and the meaning
- WOW factor

Many future artists are grateful to be able to challenge the 2021 Rainbow Studio Art Competition and apply good artworks.
We hope that young artists, who have not yet been discovered,
will be loved and interested in the local area where we live and become a better community.
This time, famous local artists became judges and were able to hear more diverse mentions,
and it is even more an honour to give them a good evaluation.
Also, I was even more grateful that many bosses of local businesses supported artists
who would brighten our region.
This week, I will announce the great stories of the artists who will be able to do a live show together.

Individual comments: |
1st Prize: “Ocean” by April Sujeong Lim
A superb portrait, unusual colour palette, theme, movement and composition. Your eye keeps on, circling from the fish fins to the face of the character…wondering what she is thinking and dreaming about. Masterful! |
2nd Prize: “Wild Life Camping” by Jiyul Park
You just want to hop in! Vibrant colours with a variety of greens and reds to balance it out;a fun geometry of patterns and the wind in the tree makes for a very dynamic piece. The doors are open and there’s a radio, cup and tablecloth to make your stay cozy! Wonderful attention to detail and a very successful creation of mood. |
2nd Prize: “Warm Sunday Afternoon” by Nancy Wang
A very intimate portrait from an aerial perspective! The restricted palette allows the viewer to concentrate and meander in hairs, whiskers, and eyes. The many patterns blend seamlessly. Very sophisticated and arresting! |
Merit Award: “Runaway to Art” by Maria Voloshin
An exquisite watercolour with a skewed perspective. From the reflections and highlights on the metal ducts and vitrines, to the many tones and textures of the tiles, the back of the chairs and the walls, you can feel all the love and care that went into creating this piece. |
Merit Award: “Water Break” by Vicky Cha
A splash of energy and fun! Great movement created by black dots, pure colour verticals, obliques at the top and white-water spray throughout. Great care was taken in the background as well, the left and right sides treated differently, creating a strong push and pull. |
Honourable Mention: “The Parade” by Selina Baek
A riot of colour, movement and expression. A creative use of the medium and subject that gives the feeling of being right in the middle of the crowd. Effective treatment of the various faces and their expressions, each with their own personality. |
Honourable Mention: “Typical Life” by Veronica Lee
This ordinary corkboardfilled with important markers make for a very interesting still life! You keep on going back and forth between the images, the dates, the captions and the calendar. You’re happy Dad made it home and you hope Julia had a great birthday celebration!!! |
